In the quiet

Lake Rotaroa is the largest lake within the Nelson Lakes National Park on New Zealand's South Island. Its name is Māori for "long lake," which aptly describes its shape.

The lake is renowned for its stunning, serene beauty. It is surrounded by ancient native beech forests that stretch right down to the water's edge. The backdrop is dominated by the rugged peaks of the surrounding mountains.

This image was taken in late July 2016 during a photo tour around the top of the South Island.
